Cozy, comfortable, stylish, and very conveniently located. We loved this place.
Plus, it is across the street from a VELIB parking. We biked everywhere in the city, never took the subway or taxi even for longer distances.
We love this apartment and will most definitely stay here for a future visit to Paris. We were here a week in May. We found it perfectly situated as a hub for all of our daily excursions. We explored practically all of downtown Paris by foot and by metro, and whether you're going to the Eiffel Tower area, St. Germain, Latin Quarter, Luxembourg Gardens, Montparnasse, even the Louvre and areas on the right bank, the walk never seemed more than 15-45 minutes anywhere. We really enjoyed walking and exploring the surrounding neighborhoods, and this apartment seemed well placed just on the outside of all the more touristy areas.
As others have noted, there's a fantastic gourmet food market on Rue du Bac a few blocks away. The immediate area around the apartment has a pleasant, urban-residential feel to it. You get the sense quickly that it's "your neighborhood." There are many cafes, restaurants, bakeries and mini-marts very close by. And in the evening, we found it to be quite safe, even walking all the way home from the Eiffel Tower at 1am, we only saw a few police offers and other couples.
As for the apartment itself, you can tell immediately that the owners take very good care of it. It looks just like the pictures here. Besides all the things you would expect to find like glasswear, dishes, linens, etc., there are small extras like spices, cleaning supplies, umbrellas, an iron, hair dryer, even extra soap and shampoos should you forget something. They even keep a nice library of Paris guidebooks and reading material. The apartment is not located on the 4th floor, however. Counting the ground level, it's on the 6th floor. The elevator is tiny, only room for two, and it doesn't go all the way up to the top floor nor does it start on the ground floor. It stops a half-level before and starts a half-level up. But when we were there, it seemed like we were the only people using the elevator, as it was always available for us when we called it.
During our stay, temps were in the 50s at night, 70s in the day, and we kept windows open at night for the cool air, but you do hear the sounds of the city, which we actually like. With no A/C, I could see comfort being an issue in warmer weather.
The Rue de Bac area is lively and convenient, bustling with fascinating shops, epiceries and restaurants. This location has everything: a few steps away were the two grocery stores,a post office and a bank, while down the street was an enchanting park close to a most impressive epicerie, attached to the Bon Marche. The metro is a few steps away and the #69 bus, which stopped near the front door, whisked us across the city to the Eiffel Tower, which at $1.60 (Can)return had to be the bargain of the century!
This apartment was safe, clean, comfortable and exquisitely decorated with intriguing art deco antiques and paintings. As in most cities, it was noisy with the windows open and I imagine AC would be a must in the summer. There was no washer/dryer as in ParisAddress's other apartments and it does in fact have steps leading to the lift and more up to the front door. This was only disappointment for us, as we had requested a place with a lift. Living for a short time in this elegant quarter was one of the highlights of our trip.
The apartment was very clean and well stocked, exactly as it was in the photos and furnished in a way to maximize the cozy space. It perfectly suited my and my husband's purposes for a one-week stay, but I can also see how a longer stay resident would need something bigger than, say, a mini-fridge. I have stayed in several apts in Paris while living here and it's clear to me that the apt owner cares about this place and probably stays here sometimes, everything was very comfortably arranged.
Additional thoughts: The apt is a good 10 minute walk to the west of the bustling part of St Germain, definitely walkable but not ideal for those wishing to stay in a lively area. It is also right next to the intersection of bd Raspail & bd St Germain, but with windows closed, the traffic sounds are muffled. The apt faces the street with southeast exposure, so lots of sunlight. During our stay, it was 20-25C (70-80F) and at the higher end of this range, it was uncomfortably warm in the apt and opening the windows helped marginally. But I imagine that up to 20C, the apt is comfortable and probably fantastic in the winter with all the precious sunlight pouring in. I would highly recommend this apartment.
